>> a vicious attack caught on camera inside a building in the bronx. a man in ground and mugged. >> summer most definitely is not through yet. hot and humid and a september heat wave on the way. >> you are talking my language. >> good morning. i'm lori stokes. >> gosh, i like the summertime. it's tuesday, september 8th. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> well, in my 27 years, i can't remember a summer that has been this nice back to back weekends. this weekend will be another one. we will talk about that. back to school and work today. warm and humid and an accuweather alert day for the heat today. so, getting the kids up this morning, we are starting out with temperatures in the 70s around the five boroughs. 71 staten island. newark 73. 76 even in poughkeepsie. these numbers should be around 64 in the city to 54 well north and west around sussex.
running 10, 12 warmer than normal. this afternoon 93. that will tie the record high set in 1919. after school today, supports, that sort of thing, drink lots of water, take a lot of breaks. coaches, superintendents, be aware of that. thunderstorms after school for thursday. we will talk about that next in the seven-day forecast. heather o'rourke is talking about bus changes at port authority. >> before we get to that, there is an accident on 495 traveling to the lincoln tunnel. this is the helix, dark out there. you can see the traffic is slowly moving down the helix. an accident on 495 near pleasant avenue. that accident is being cleared away. let's go to the maps. we will talk about the gate changes, new jersey transit buses, coach usa buses. i got a tweet from somebody. judy wants to know why i'm talk not talking about decamp buses. there are changes. street cleaning rules are in
effect today. developing this morning, a deadly chain reaction crash on the belt parkway. a young woman thrown from the motorcycle then run over by another vehicle. this happened late last night on the belt at cross may boulevard. this morning we are learning more about the woman that died. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live in lindenwood. >> reporter: police tell us the woman just accepted a ride on the back of the motorcycle and moments later, once they got on the belt parkway, she was killed. that woman is sade eversley of brooklyn. police the motorcycle driver was -- say the motorcycle driver was heading westbound and hit the divider. she hit the pavement and was hit by what police describe as a white older model minivan. police say that minivan did not stop. they are trying to track down the driver.
moments later a second minivan ran over the victim but stopped. no charges have been filed. loved ones rushed to the parkway in disbelief. there may be witnesses. you can see backed up traffic on the belt parkway. they are interviewing the driver of the motorcycle, a 28- year-old man. his name has not been released. no charges were filed against him as well even though he lost control, he was not injured in the whole thing but police are asking for your help. if you were on the parkway in this area around 10:30 last night and if you saw anything, call it in. live in queens, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. police released new video overnight of a violent attack inside an elevator of a bronx apartment building. it happened late last week near grand concourse in east mount eden avenue. the suspect approached the 64- year-old victim as he was entering the elevator, punched
him in the head, snatched a gold chain and fled. the victim gave chase and the suspect attacked again. fortunately the man was not seriously hurt. breaking news this morning out of eastern turkey. a roadside bomb killed 12 police officers. the tack coming amid clashes with rebels. turkish warplanes carried out attacks on bases in iraq. hundreds of thousands of refugees are rushing across european borders as they flee violence. 20,000 gathered in to germany over the weekend with more expected to arrive this week. germany is ready to take in 800,000 this year and urged other countries to step up. the surge is expected to cost germany up to $10 billion next year.
governor cuomo is wrapping up a two-day visit to puerto rico. the island is sinking under the crushing weight of debt. new york is home to the largest population of puerto rican people outside of the caribbean island. the governor and officials on the island are discussing how new york can help puerto rico dig itself out of a 72 billion- dollar hole. >> having a presence alone is sending a message that new york wants to be involved, lend its expertise and what it can do. a lot can be exchanged in the meeting. >> puerto rico has double digit unemployment and financial mismanagement. the morning commute, dozens of bus routes will depart from a different gate at the crowded terminal on the west side. a full 30% of all riders will be affected.
the majority of them new jersey transit commuters. port authority officials are expecting mass confusion. >> dray clark is live to explain what is going on. good morning, dray. >> reporter: good morning, ken. most of the changes will require riders to go to new gates on a different level at the bus terminal. more than 200,000 riders pass through the bus terminal every day. these changes are a big deal. the majority of those 200,000 plus riders actually use new jersey transit or coach usa buses. starting today, all new jersey transit buses will be moving to the third floor and all coach usa are moving to the fourth floor. other bus lines are indeed affected but coach usa and new jersey transit are the two biggest carriers here operating out of the bus terminal. the port authority says that these changes are necessary to decrease congestion especially on the bus ramps that connect
the terminal to the lincoln tunnel. also as you avoid two of the biggest bus lines being on the same floor and competing for the same space. >> two biggest players trying to operate off the same floor, sometimes you get conflicts. we eliminate the conflict. they will have better control, less conflict and gives us the ability to monitor what is going on with our own staff. so,ing the result of this, we are -- so,ing the result of -- so, the result of this, better reliability of your trip. >> going home this evening it will be tough. that's when we expect the congestion and confusion. the port authority added extra staff to make sure that riders can find their gates because of these new changes.
they have been reminding people and telling riders it will happen. today it's effective. be patient as we all try to work through the new gate changes. live in midtown, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. another blow for the clinton campaign for the ongoing e-mail scandal. "new york times" reports a second review of the e-mails found two e-mails sent to clinton that contained highly classified information. one of the classified messages sent to her home server pertained to north korea's nuclear weapons program. this supports an earlier review which the clinton campaign had dismissed as bureaucratic infighting. meanwhile, mike huckabee is taking sides over the fight of gay marriage in kentucky. he will join a press conference and prayer rally in support of

>> reporter: lots of traffic up here, heather. good morning. as bill said, official back to school week. volume will pick up dramatically. the gowanus is no different. this was a two-car accident. no serious injuries. the second vehicle drove away after the police department arrived but you can see damage. it does require a tow truck. this is inbound before 38th street. you can see the third lane is blocked not quite to the verrazano bridge but almost back that far already. >> we have another problem trying to cross the hudson river. a camera, the helix of the lincoln tunnel, rather, right to left down the helix, bumper to bumper. why is that? let's go to the maps. lincoln tunnel on the inbound side an accident in the south tube being cleared away. traffic is bunching up there and the george washington bridge and holland are doing okay. today.
new details as four more mexican officials face charges for helping el chapo escape from prison. the federal courts board identify two of those charged as members of the mexican intelligence service that worked at the prison housing the most notorious drug king pen. the other two were prison employees in the control room. all four were accused of helping the prisoner escape and not following protocol in sounding the alarm. after spending more than a month out of site, the american dentist that -- out of sight, the american dentist that killed cecil the lion will return to his practice.

summer and head into fall. 88 by noon. 93 later on today. it will feel like 95 to 100. accuweather alert day. heather is looking at the commute. how is it going? >> we had john del giorno above the lincoln tunnel showing us the delay at the lincoln tunnel. as we head to the maps, 40 minutes inbound at the lincoln because of that accident in the south tube. the george washington bridge has a minor delay. holland tunnel inbound is a 10- minute wait. timetables. at this point, most of our lines are on or close to schedule. port jefferson has one train late and this is because of earlier police activity. we will keep our eye on the port jefferson branch. metro north is on or close to schedule. grand central west an accident. gowanus inbound at 38th street the earlier accident has been cleared away. alternate side of the street parking rules in effect.
>> developing in queens, police want to talk to the driver of a minivan involved in a deadly hit and run crash overnight. this started when two people on a motorcycle lost control on the belt parkway. kala rama picks up the story from there. >> reporter: eight hours after the crash, police are still looking to talk to the driver of a minivan who ran over a woman on the highway. we learned that that woman is sade eversley of brooklyn. let me show you what the scene looked like. the 28-year-old motorcycle driver was heading westbound, lost control and hit a divider. eversley on the back was thrown to the pavement. while she was injured lying in the left lane, she was hit by what police describe as a white older model minivan. police say that minivan did not stop. they are trying to track down the driver. moments later a second minivan ran over the victim but stopped. no charges have been filed.
loved ones looking on in disbelief. there may be some witnesses that police are looking to talk to. you can see traffic backed up on the belt parkway. they are asking if you were in the area of 10:30 and you saw this crash, police call police. the description of the car is a white older model minivan. live in queens, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kala, thank you. firefighters needed treatment for their injuries after a fire at an apartment building on palisades avenue. all of the tenants in the building got out safely but there was heavy smoke and at least five people are homeless. the cause of the fire is under investigation. police are looking for the gang members who were trading shots in brooklyn shooting an aide to governor cuomo in the head a block from the route of the west indian day parade. carey gabay is in critical condition. he is a harvard educated lawyer
who went from city housing development to the governor's office. his best friends, kevin cummings spoke to eyewitness news. he said they all ran and ducked behind parked cars when the gunfire erupted earlier yesterday morning. >> after the first shot, a series of 19 shots after that, just repeated, pow, pow, pow. like six of us laying down waiting for this to end. when it ended, like five, six seconds, we got up and someone said someone shot around there and i looked around and it was carey. >> police say it appears that gabay was an unintended target of the gang shooting. he remains on life support at the hospital. a deadly crash in sullivan county killed three members of the same family. among them a former auxiliary captain who responded on 9/11. the crash happened yesterday afternoon on route 17 in rock hill.
58-year-old morris was killed with his wife and future son-in- law. their daughter and two sons were also in the car but they did survive. all were members of the orthodox jewish community on the lower east side. authorities are investigating how the s.u.v. lost control flipping several times. a congressional hearing in lower manhattan will stir memories of 9/11. commissioner william bratton will testify along with former mayor rudy giuliani and others. homeland security is assessing the country's readiness for terrorism. former new york city police commissioner ray kelly is back with a memoir called vigilance. it packs harsh judgments. he blames mayor de blasio for the current rise in killings. murders are 8% higher since the start of the year and relationships into the court
we have breaking news on the morning commute. this is a mess. the south tube of the lincoln tunnel is shut down leading to some big delays. >> let's get the latest from john del giorno in newscopter 7. john? >> lori and ken, what we are seeing is not good. take a look at that. what we are seeing is vehicles being backed out of the inbound south tube. it has been shut down for about the last 25 minutes. south tube. we saw port authority police. they are putting cones around. in the last five minutes, they have gun to back vehicles out of the tube. that is not a good sign. we don't have an update on the
severity. we have to keep an eye on it. still the inbound south tube is closed. that reduces the capacity from four lanes to two lanes. that is the helix. delays at least 45 minutes inbound into the city. live over the lincoln tunnel, john del giorno, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> never seen a truck backing out. that is amazing. cheers and hugs during the night when a boy was pulled from a long forgotten well. the boy's dog apparently vanished down the well several days ago and the boy heard the dog yesterday evening and walked over to the unnoticed hole and fell in 23 feet. first responders had a struggle to free the boy and his dog. they now who to come up with pizza and fire truck rides, the stuff they promised the boy after he got out of the trapped hole.

will be arraigned for saturday's killing of winfield gillespie. he was found dead in a home on widow drive. barnwell -- barnwell is facing several charleston. a boys ranging from 10 to 12 years of age launched a canoe to go fishing yesterday. as they paddled away from the shoreline, the winds picked up and blue them more than a mile offshore. officers saw the boys and brought them to safety. in new york, the fire department will add 21 new names to the world trade center memorial wall. 21 fdny members have died from illnesses related to the 9/11 zero. the memorial walliss the names of -- wall lists the names. this morning and it was reported to us as a simple three-car accident. i don't have an update on the severity of the collision but for the last ten or 15 minutes we have watched port authority police in the tunnel guiding vehicles out of the tube into the center tube. bumper to bumper delays. all the traffic down the helix through the tolls being fund into the center tube. this isn't affecting the express because line. buy the delays go back on route 3 almost back to the hackensack river bridge. >> that is a delay. let's go over and look at a camera shot at the george washington bridge. if you are wondering if that is an option, i knew this would happen. starting to get slow on the upper level of the george washington bridge. let's go to the maps, george washington bridge into the tolls is 20 minutes. lincoln an hour plus. holland tunnel with a 15 management delay.

breaking news at the lincoln tunnel. a mess there. newscopter 7 is showing us the massive delays because of an accident. traffic is only getting into the city through the center tube. two lanes now. heather o'rourke will have a full report a few moments from now. a woman thrown from a motorcycle then run over by two minivans on the belt parkway in queens. >> eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live with the latest on the deadly chain reaction crash. >> police need your help trying to figure out who the driver is of a minivan who ran over a woman on the highway. police say the 2-year-old motorcycle driver was heading westbound, lost control and hit the divider. 22-year-old sade eversley of brooklyn was riding on the back
and was thrown off the back and into the left lane. police say that is when she was hit by what was described as a white older model minivan. the minivan did not stop and they are trying to track down the driver. moments later a second mine 'any van ran over the victim. no charges have been filed. police tell us they need your help. if you were here around 10:30 and saw the crash, call police. >> live in queens, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. port authority bus terminal could be humming with confusion this evening. >> eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in midtown to explain. >> reporter: smooth going this morning. as for this evening, as one passenger told me, lord help us. they are expecting a lot of chaos and confusion. more than 200,000 people pass through the nearlynal every day. the majority of those 200,000 passengers ride new jersey transit or coach usa buses. starting today, all new jersey transit buses will move to the
